Overview

The Global Leaders Scholarship is an exciting new scholarship available to eligible international applicants from across the world (excluding East Asia, Gulf states, and Europe) who are applying to study at the University in the 2025/26 academic year. The scholarship will be available to both University of Sunderland and University of Sunderland in London students.

Eligible applicants will be awarded a scholarship in the form of a monetary reduction. Undergraduate students are eligible for a £5,000 discount on annual tuition fees, totalling £15,000 over three years of study. Postgraduate students will receive a £4,500 reduction in tuition fees. This discount will be automatically applied to all applicants for semesters 1 and 2.

The Global Leaders Scholarship is available for a limited time and is subject to availability.

Semester 1 – A tuition fee deposit must be paid by 30 June (for courses starting in September) or 31 July (for courses starting in October).

Semester 2 – A tuition fee deposit must be paid by 14 November (for courses starting in January) or 12 December (for courses starting in February).

Deposits received after these dates will be considered at the discretion of the International Office.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for the Global Leaders Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

If you don't meet the above criteria ahead of courses commencing in semester 1 and semester 2, you won't be eligible to receive this scholarship. Furthermore, if you defer from semester 2 of the 2024/25 academic year, your application will need to be reassessed and we can't guarantee that the scholarship would still apply.

Please note, the Global Leaders Scholarship isn't guaranteed and you must be able to fund your course and associated costs without receipt of the scholarship. You should consider the University of Sunderland Fees Policy prior to applying and specific attention is drawn to international student deposits and refunds.

How to apply

This is allocated by the University's Admissions team, with no separate application required for the fee waiver. Upon receiving your offer from the University, you'll see that the scholarship will have been automatically awarded.

Terms and conditions

1. Applicants must meet the UKVI maintenance requirements. For further details on these requirements, please refer to the Government website.

2. The University makes the final decision on the recipient of the Global Leaders Scholarship.

3. In the event that a student doesn't register on their course by the required date or defers their admission to a later intake, they'll no longer be eligible for the scholarship.

4. For the avoidance of doubt, all students are subject to the University standard terms and conditions which will be highlighted to you on a number of occasions throughout the application and enrolment process. These can also be found in the student handbook.

5. The scholarship is not transferable.

6. The applicant is responsible for ensuring that the discount is reflected in the offer letter and subsequently in the CAS letter. The University isn't responsible for issuing a refund for the amount of the scholarship if the discount isn't reflected in the offer letter and/or CAS letter.

7. Where a student is required to pay for repeat modules to progress on to the next year of their course, no scholarship will be awarded to cover the cost of the repeated modules. In cases where a student must repeat a full year of study, they will not be entitled to the scholarship during this period of repeat study.

8. Should a student take a leave of absence during their studies, full tuition fees will still be due. The scholarship should have been applied during the year you have taken your leave of absence.

9. Students who receive the scholarship are not entitled to receive the Alumni Discount.

These terms and conditions will be read in conjunction with, and in addition to, the University standard terms and conditions of enrolment. In the event of a conflict between these terms and conditions and the University standard terms and conditions, it will be the University standard terms and conditions which apply.

The University's decision as to awarding the scholarship is final on the application of these terms and conditions and the eligibility criteria. The University won't be deemed to be in breach of any legal or contractual obligations due to changes to eligibility criteria beyond the reasonable control of the University.
