Field trips start in your first year at university, allowing you to make friends and build up a community within your cohort. We visit regional, national and international locations. Visits are often structured similarly to your academic studies, and you'll be expected to carry out different research elements such as observations and questionnaires to ensure you gain valuable experience in the field.
Studying in Sunderland has its perks, as we are in the heart of the North East of England which is surrounded by beautiful countryside, coastlines and cities. We often take our students to Northumberland, where we visit the likes of Wallington and Cragside. These stunning locations are packed with scenery but also offer opportunities to visit historic properties and learn whilst being out in the field.
Our partnership with Kielder Water allows Hospitality, Events, Aviation and Tourism students visit the site each year as part of the Consultancy for the Visitor Economy module.
Here, you'll gain fantastic insight into how the business is developing and operating and work on a live consultancy project in conjunction with the management team. The team at Kielder Water are passionate about supporting your progression as an industry professional and it's also an excellent opportunity for them to gain access to current trends in academia and the industry, and consider new ways of thinking.
We know that as a hospitality and tourism student, you may be interested in travelling and exploring different locations and cultures, so we provide the opportunity for you to choose to study abroad as part of your degree.
The University of Sunderland has exchange partnerships with universities across the globe in locations such as the USA, Canada, Australia, and South Korea. Spending time studying abroad is a fantastic chance to explore a different country and experience alternative approaches to learning.
