The benefits of studying abroad are wide-ranging, so we've included just a few:

Independence

Studying abroad enhances your independence and self-confidence. Students are increasingly culturally aware, viewing insights and challenges from a global perspective and studying in the UK provides a sense of adventure and a new approach to your academic study. Students who have studied abroad often reflect on how they are now more self-assured and well-rounded members of the global academic community.

Exploring new locations

The UK provides a well-connected gateway to Europe and the rest of the world. Both Sunderland and London have easy access to the main airports, ports and high-speed trains. Travel to France, Italy, Spain and other international destinations is easy to organise. While here you can make short trips to Britain's other beautiful cities such as Durham, Bath, York and Edinburgh, explore the coastlines and countryside and visit Scotland, the Lake District and the Cotswolds.

Lifetime friends and cultural perspectives

International study links and unites students from home and host campuses. Students grow together both in academic life and as friends, sharing the experience of adapting to new cultures. You will discover different world views, not just in the classroom but through taking part in extra-curricular activities.

Employability

Transferring credits from a UK university will enhance your CV. Having international experience demonstrates to employers that you are culturally educated. Many employers view the study abroad experience as key to the development of critical employability skills.

Modules

Modules and teaching are delivered to ensure effective cultural and academic integration. We place great focus on experiential learning, self-development activities and extra-curricular experiences. Our Study Abroad team will help you to select modules to align with your home programme of study.

Credit transfer

The Study Abroad Team is knowledgeable about international credit transfer systems and will work with you to make sure module credits are compatible and ensure timely credit transfer to your home university. More information can be found on the credit transfer page.
