Jordan North

Lancashire, UK

BA (Hons) Media Production

Jordan North graduated from the University of Sunderland in 2011, with a degree in BA (Hons) Media Production. Starting his radio career on University station Spark Sunderland, Jordan has worked for Rock FM, The Hits, Capital Manchester and BBC Radio 1. He appeared as a contestant on ITV's 'I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!' in 2020 and was announced as a co-host on the BBC Radio 1 daily drivetime show in 2021.

I knew straight away from the vibe of the place, the people here, the lecturers and the staff; it was definitely the place for me.

My best memory of working at Spark? I have so many! We used to do OBs across the city, we used to do daft shows. Because we were such a small team, we were all very close-knit, working until one or two o'clock in the morning on a Wednesday or Thursday night. Trying to make Spark work and sound good, that's what I remember. Being with people in the office and just having a really good laugh.

The thing I miss the most about Sunderland is the people. I genuinely have never met a nicer bunch of people.

My advice to any students that are thinking of coming here is just embrace it, make the most of it, but you really do need to work hard. Spark's here, you can make all your mistakes and learn your trade right here, and that's a great opportunity.

Turf Moor is definitely my happy place, but I reckon the University of Sunderland comes up there – top five, definitely! I learned my trade here, so it's definitely a happy place."
