Directors of Undergraduate Clinical Studies

The Faculty of Health Science and Wellbeing and the School of Medicine has a strong tradition of established partnerships with local health providers across all healthcare sectors. The School of Medicine has continued this tradition with established links including primary care, secondary care and psychiatry trusts.

Our appointment of five Directors of Undergraduate Clinical Studies (DUCS) is the first wave of clinical teaching appointments in our partner trusts with further partner organisations to deliver teaching as the medical student cohort increases.are consultant clinicians who overseeing teaching and clinical placements for University of Sunderland Medical students at the following healthcare organisations: 

Our DUCS appointments are already planning the delivery of excellent clinical placements in five clinical partner organisations: 

  • North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust 
  • Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust 
  • South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust 
  • Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust 
  • Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust 

 
Our Directors are experienced clinical educators with proven track records in delivering excellent clinical teaching in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. The Directors, supported by a team of dedicated clinical specialists educators in each trust, are well placed to deliver excellent clinical teaching across a range of specialities, offering diverse opportunities to all our medical students. The North East has an excellent reputation for clinical education and our Directors will ensure that tradition continues for our medical students.
