The Diploma in Medical Education is for those who want to take their knowledge and skills of Medical Education a little bit further than the PG Cert. The course is primarily for those who regularly train / supervise medical students or resident doctors. It is also suitable for those in the dental or veterinary professions.
The course aims to generate people who deliver excellent, practical training in the complex, busy healthcare workplace where time is precious and patient care paramount.
You will have a chance to focus on areas relevant to your current and future medical education practice, aiming to support you in any future role in medical education.
The Diploma will provide the next step up towards a full Masters qualification if you wish to go further.
The course uses a mix of online lectures, group-based seminars, interactive workshop activities, and action learning sets. Self-directed learning will also support your learning experience.
The course is taught on a part-time basis via live synchronous sessions, self-study, and asynchronous activity on the Canvas platform. There are regular on-site days each term to meet your fellow students and receive face to face training. We also run a writing day every term to improve your academic writing skills in parallel to the whole course.
You will be assessed using multiple methods reflecting the underpinning principles of universal design for learning. These include reflective writing, individual presentation with feedback, creation of teaching materials and submission of a portfolio of practice.
