Develop your knowledge of modern technologies in industrial engineering with our MSc Advanced Engineering Design course. This course will help you to enhance your existing skills for digital design and smart manufacturing applications.
Using advanced technologies, you’ll look at different ways of reaching solutions before a system or product is developed. You’ll learn about a range of technical topics, applying your existing knowledge and skills to enhance the efficiency and productivity of manufacturing organisations. You’ll practice successful implementation of solutions, considering design, development, and testing phases within a project.
In addition to engineering skills, you'll also develop your management and societal awareness skills, focusing on managing the development of modern solutions that address society’s needs.
This course will help you develop into an independent, creative, problem-solving, engineering professional.
We use a wide variety of teaching and learning methods which include lectures, group work, research, discussion groups, seminars, tutorials and practical laboratory sessions. Compared to an undergraduate course, you will find that this Masters requires a higher level of independent working. Assessment methods include coursework, practical reports, critical reviews of real-world case studies, presentations, viva, and the Masters project.

This course equips you for a wide range of roles throughout the engineering and manufacturing sector. Employers recognise the value of qualifications from Sunderland, which has been training engineers and technicians for over 100 years.

Our recent Engineering graduates have gone on to work for companies such as McLaren Automotive, General Motors, Jaguar, Perkins Engines, GSK, Northumbrian Water, Hitachi and Parametrics Technology. Other graduates conduct research within major automotive manufacturers such as Ford, Vauxhall and Nissan.
