This course will equip you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the exciting field of computer science. You'll start by diving into the fundamentals, covering programming, software engineering, computer architecture, and networks. This solid foundation will prepare you for the exciting specialisations you'll explore in the later stages.
You will then delve deeper into specialised areas like database systems, agile development, cybersecurity, and secure networks. You'll have the chance to work on real-world scenarios, building your practical skills and collaborating with your peers, in a group project.
Finally, you'll explore cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, advanced cybersecurity, data technologies, and mobile development. This will give you a competitive edge and prepare you for a wide range of rewarding career paths in the computer science industry.
Our courses delivered at study centres share the same ethos, material, and approach as those delivered at Sunderland itself. So this course is a way to gain the benefits of an education from our University without having to move to Sunderland.
Like all courses from the University of Sunderland, this one-year course develops a blend of theory and practice. It will ‘top-up’ your existing knowledge and skills to the level of an honours degree.

Teaching methods include lectures, tutorials, seminars, and group work. As well as assessments that count towards your degree, there are also ongoing assessments for feedback and consolidating your learning. Assessment methods include coursework and exams.
Teaching on this part-time course takes place on evenings and at weekends. The full-time course is taught during the day.
