Whilst in secondary school, university was never an option for me, I would always put myself down and think I wasn’t ‘clever’ enough for it. After leaving school I studied a travel and tourism course at college and it was during this time I learned about the events industry; this was something I wanted to develop my knowledge on. I conducted a lot of research and found the Events Management course at the University of Sunderland and now
After visiting several universities around the country, I knew from the beginning I wanted to study at Sunderland. I visited the University on three different occasions and every time the staff remembered me, which created a very personal experience. There was always a very friendly nature, not only from lecturers in the faculty but also from other members of staff as well as the student ambassadors.
My favourite aspect of the course is that the classes are small. I really enjoyed this as it gave an element of personalisation in the lectures and seminars. The quality of teaching is always of a very high standard and the lecturers who deliver the sessions, are always on hand to give help and advice when it is needed, whether through the faculty Facebook page, via email or by face to face appointment.
There is a wide range of extra-curricular activities for people to do including the different societies that the University offers. There is also the Employability and Enterprise Hub which gives people guidance and advice on finding work after they graduate.
I would definitely recommend the University of Sunderland. My experience here has been life changing. I have developed so much, not just academically but personally as well. I have gained so much experience in the events field and cannot wait to graduate and continue to develop in an industry which I now love. I am so glad that the girl who once doubted herself is now entering her final year.”
