I chose the University of Sunderland because its master's in pharmaceutical formulation perfectly aligned with my interests, particularly in bioinformatics and nanotechnology. Prior to this, I was working as a pharmaceutics teaching assistant at Misr University for Science and Technology in Giza, Egypt. This role ignited my passion for further learning and research in pharmaceutics, leading me to pursue a master's degree to deepen my knowledge and expertise.
My favourite parts of the course were the modules on delivering gene and therapeutic proteins and pharmaceutical nanotechnology as it provided insights on the latest technologies in the field which I find interesting and valuable. Additionally, I found learning the basics of bioinformatics particularly intriguing, as it opened new avenues in drug development. Also, the research project module was immensely valuable, allowing me to enhance my critical writing skills and broaden my horizons.
Since graduating, I returned to Egypt and was promoted to assistant lecturer. I’m currently participating in various research projects focusing on nanotechnology and drug delivery, applying what I learned during my master’s. The skills I gained in critical writing and research methodology have been invaluable in my current role. Looking ahead, I aim to continue advancing my academic career while contributing to innovative research in pharmaceutical formulations.
My advice to prospective students is to take full advantage of the resources and support available. Engage with faculty and participate in networking opportunities, such as conferences. The admissions team is incredibly helpful, so don’t hesitate to ask questions. Also, be proactive in your studies and research projects; it’s a great way to maximise your learning and growth during your time at the university.
My experience at the University of Sunderland was exceptional. The quality of learning was top-notch, with supportive and friendly academics who genuinely care about student success. The course not only enhanced my knowledge and skills but also helped me build a valuable network. Graduating with distinction was a significant achievement, and I truly believe that my time at the University has set a strong foundation for my career in pharmaceutical sciences."
