Case Study

I wanted to enter the pharmacy profession since I was 14 years old, so I always knew I would go to university. I went through GCSEs and A Levels at school before coming to University, but I didn’t quite make the grades to enter the Pharmacy course straight from sixth form. However, there was an opportunity to do a foundation year with the potential to start Pharmacy the following year. The foundation year really helped prepare me for the MPharm course, and I am so glad I did that.

I particularly enjoy the seminars and group discussion opportunities. These are interactive and allow us to ask the lecturers any questions, they are always happy to help. Having the opportunity to have the Patient, Carer and Public Involvement (PCPI) participants involved too is brilliant. This means we can really apply our knowledge and talk to patients and get their points of view about their experiences, which is so useful for our future careers.

I would advise prospective students to have a look around campus and the wonderful facilities that Sunderland has to offer. It is also great for your social life as there are lots of bars, pubs, restaurants and you will also be right by the beach!

My experience has been challenging, rewarding and exciting. I hope to graduate and start my pre-registration position in the summer. My future career aim is to become a Pharmacy Manager."
