My career aspiration is to be a TV presenter; hence I was looking for a course that could really put me on the right platform. Through research I first thought that broadcast journalism was the way for me, however I found a course that caught my attention straight away - BA (Hons) Screen Performance at the University of Sunderland. The course had everything I was looking for: acting, production, the skills and the equipment. Then, when I came in to audition and was shown around the University, I believed that this was the place for me – a place where I could not only learn but build up my portfolio as I progressed.
Online teaching during lockdown has been very helpful, we use Zoom meetings to stay connected to the lecturers and I kept in touch with classmates this way too – we even had some Zoom meetings to discuss future projects. It was a nice way to check up on everyone and make sure everyone was ok. The transition from on campus to online learning has been very smooth, there was no connection lost in the teaching style and I still got my end of year projects and essays done in plenty of time, receiving great marks too.
My experience of studying at the University of Sunderland so far has been splendid, I have made lots of friends with people who share the same ideas as mine, met some amazing lecturers who have taught me how to perfect my art and learned how to act outside my comfort zone. My lecturers would solve any problems in a heartbeat; whether it was the modules, timings, projects or assessments, they would always do their best to give us the education we need. It is great to be in a place where everyone respects your ideas and talent.”
