I wanted to come to university because I wanted to be trained extensively in the performing arts, which have been my passion since I was a child. After completing secondary education, I served in the National Guard of Cyprus for 14 months and then I applied to university. I chose to study at the University of Sunderland due to the multidimensional nature of the BA (Hons) Performing Arts course, as it trains the student in a range of different arts which can therefore enhance employment opportunities.

The best aspect of the course is the variety of modules that each student can choose to develop their talent. You can either focus on acting or dancing, or you can combine modules from both strands to become a versatile performer. It provides a wide range of options to be trained in your area of performance, and combines training with academic writing to develop your critical thinking and grow as an artist.

The advice I would give to prospective students is to release themselves from any boundaries in order to immerse themselves in the experience. Also, know that the lecturers will be there for them and whatever they need. They should be punctual, not stress too much and enjoy what will probably be the best three years of their life.

My experience of studying at University of Sunderland was life-changing. It started off slow and then it went by all at once. I made a family around people who had the same passions as me and we walked together to a common goal. I wish I could live it all again.”
