I was working in a field that dealt with people with mental health problems, namely asylum seekers who had acute PTSD and very troubling personal experiences. My colleagues often praised my calming nature and personality so I decided to retrain in this field – I believe it is a gift to help people. I’ve also trained as a teacher and worked with many SEN children, so this course felt like a natural progression.

The University of Sunderland has a great reputation and its facilities are renowned. The course structure is set up in a way that is enabling me to develop my knowledge base. For me, it isn’t just about getting a degree, it is about learning about a topic at the maximum level so it sets me up for my future career. I love learning new things and this course has plenty of opportunities to expand your knowledge and deepen your learning. The staff are amongst some of the most well-educated people I have had the privilege of learning from, so it is a great choice if you want to learn from some of the best educators around.

I would advise future students to prepare for a lot of hard work but an enjoyable experience. If you study hard you will reap the rewards. Don’t feel too intimidated as there will be lots of help and support available to you. I joined my course in the April intake and it didn’t feel too dissimilar to starting in September. It actually felt quite nice starting something in spring, as opposed to the traditional September start time.

To sum up, the University of Sunderland is a great place to study. If you are serious about getting a degree then Sunderland is one of the best places to learn.”
