I chose the University of Sunderland after visiting an Open Day while studying for my A Levels. After seeing the facilities the University had to offer, in particular, the dedicated Law library, I knew the University was where I wanted to go. The staff at the Open Day were very helpful and informative. I have always known I wanted to have a career in law, and I knew the University would give me the best opportunity to pursue that dream.
The course has many fantastic aspects. The staff are absolutely fantastic, they can not do enough to help; the open-door policy they have is a particularly good point. Nothing is ever too much trouble for them – they're very approachable. The facilities are brilliant, with access to key databases. The Student Law Clinic is a highlight – giving students a feel for life in a live legal environment, working on real-life cases while under the supervision of qualified solicitors.
The extracurricular activities are second-to-none; I won both the internal Mooting and Client Interviewing competitions while studying Law and I can honestly say they have helped so much to develop not only my key legal skills but also me as a person. The opportunity to take part in a Moot in the Supreme Court in London is an unforgettable experience that I would strongly encourage others to take part in. Also, the opportunity to represent the University at the Regional Finals of the Client Interviewing Competition was an honour that will stay with me forever. Since graduating, I have been working as a paralegal at a solicitor’s firm.
Studying here was a life-changing experience that I certainly will remember all my life. It has shaped me and set me up for what will hopefully be a very long and successful career. The facilities, all of the staff and my fellow students helped make my time at the University an enjoyable and rewarding experience."
