Daniel George Peacock

Doncaster, UK

LLB (Hons) Law

LLM Legal Practice

Daniel George Peacock attended an Open Day at the University of Sunderland and very quickly discovered why many of his friends had chosen to study here. Now, Daniel describes his experience at the University as “life-changing” and crucial to securing his current position with a North East based law firm.

Prior to attending an Open Day at the University, I knew a few people who had chosen to study there. All of them had fantastic things to say about the LLB (Hons) Law course and the University as a whole. I went to an Open Day and the staff walked me through the important aspects of the course and showed me around the campus. It was easy for me to see why so many people fall in love with the North East.

When I was doing my research, I was amazed at how many different subjects were taught as part of the course, I think that the opportunity to try different areas of Law has really shaped my career. Right from the outset the practical elements appealed to me.

The Student Law Clinic provides excellent experience with real clients and legal issues. It mirrors work that you would be doing at the start of your career in a law firm. For someone who did not have any legal experience, this was pivotal in gaining employment after I graduated. I also used the mock court room on campus often and I would recommend it to anyone interested in advocacy. The Law academics have close links with local firms, and it was clear to me straight away that the degree really compliments employment after graduation.

The support at the University of Sunderland was amazing and the teaching is made personal to you. The lecturers take pride in providing bespoke support and have an open-door policy. I also made use of the careers support and used the CV builder service several times to enhance my CV.

The best piece of advice I could give to future applicants would be to go to the open days and some taster sessions. You'll see for yourself that the expertise the team has is phenomenal, a lot of the teaching team within the law school have practiced or are currently practicing.

Since graduating I have obtained a training contract with a law firm that has close links to the University, and I am due to qualify in 2022. I’ve also recently been appointed as the Chair of the Junior Lawyers Division (JLD) for Newcastle and the North East and I have hosted networking events to help current students on the LLB (Hons) Law course at the University.

I’m looking forward to gaining more knowledge in my field as I progress in my career, I would love to become a director one day but I think that it’s important to walk before you can run."
