Case Study

I’d always wanted to pursue a course in Project Management, and I found the University of Sunderland was one of the universities offering this course through research online. I was impressed by the course content, and Sunderland also presented a unique opportunity to study with an affordable living standard.

The course presented interesting and practical aspects in the learning process. Working with a team formed by students from different countries and cultural backgrounds that I had just met presented a challenge of managing international teams in a project environment. A practical sense of planning, and managing a real project was presented by the SODOR case project that we had to do as a group of students.

It hasn’t been long since I graduated but I’m already using what I learnt on my course in my current working environment. I’ve been named a finalist by APM for the Association of Project Management, Geoffrey Trimble Award 2017, which recognizes the best project management dissertations from UK universities. I have also been nominated by my employer to represent the National Strategy Office in the project management symposium, where there will be discussions on how to improve project implementation in the government of Botswana. With this platform, I hope to showcase my skills and, above all, the results of my dissertation, which was investigating prospects of establishing a project management office to deal with challenges in government projects.
