I chose to study at the University of Sunderland as it was the only university that offered me the chance to complete my degree in two years instead of starting over from the beginning. I had studied engineering before but had to leave with just one year to go because of personal circumstances. I worked for a short while in customer services until in 2017 I got a job as an electrical engineer in the construction industry, and decided to go back to university to complete my degree.
My favourite part of the course is that I’m always learning new information, and learning new ways of how things work. I would tell prospective students to make sure that you choose the right course for you, because that will determine how much effort you are willing to put in and therefore how you will progress in your studies. It will also determine the kind of experience that will have during your time at university.
The University of Sunderland is different to my previous institution; I used to have to attend classes and do my assignments from 8am-8pm, but Sunderland encourages us to have a social life as well. They also encourage team work which is important for an engineer.
After I complete my degree I want to progress in my career and become a senior engineer. I plan to get into management, be the head of a department or start my own company.”
