I chose to study for the PGCE Education to enhance my professional development. I was a pharmacist and had been working in the profession for 12 years, after which I decided to change careers.
I received a lot of support from my academic tutor and Programme Leader, both of whom believed in me and inspired me to continue my journey to master's level, and subsequently PhD level. The best part of the PGCE Education Distance Learning course was that it equipped me with all the tools I needed to be a confident and passionate teacher.
After I graduated, I worked as a teacher for a year and then gained a promotion to Head of Science in a British school in Cairo. I have been leading a team of 10 teachers for two years now. I can see that my leadership is making a big difference in my team members’ lives. My aim is to continue to be a teacher trainer and mentor, sharing all the tools and techniques I have learned from the PGCE Education course at the University of Sunderland. Graduating from this course has helped me progress in my career quickly and I am now recognised as an “outstanding” teacher.
My experience of studying at Sunderland has helped me make what I thought was impossible, possible! This is most definitely down to the guidance of knowledgeable academics and a strong personal will to make a teaching career happen. I loved the opportunity of networking with different teachers through the University’s discussion forums, as we could share our experiences and best practice.
I've already recommended the course to all my colleagues as it has been a life-changing experience for me."
