I chose to study at Sunderland as the course I was interested in had a wide range of topics within the fashion discipline. I also wanted to stay living at home to save money, so Sunderland was the perfect fit for me.
I had initially planned on studying a foundation degree in Art and Design but changed my mind the day I received my A-Level results. I got an interview with the University through Clearing, and from then I knew it was the best option for me.
I loved the wide variety of topics on the course. When I started, I had no idea which aspect of the industry I would like to work in and wanted to gain as much experience as possible. I really enjoyed the branding side of the course, and the skills I learned from that set me up perfectly for my career.
I would absolutely recommend the University of Sunderland to other students, I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I recommend you go and have a look at the campus and meet the lecturers from the courses you're interested in. The lecturers from my course were amazing, and a real asset to the University!
In my second year, I received assistance from the Internship team. They really helped me get my foot in the door by helping me get an internship at Team Valley; the experience I gained in that role looks great on my CV.
Since graduating, I furthered my skills in menswear, working for local tailoring companies. I then moved on to set up my own clothing company, The Lone Wolf Pack, which aims to raise awareness for mental health issues through the clever design of its products. I currently work full-time, running the business.
The University of Sunderland and my lecturers turned my talents into skills and my dreams into reality – without them, I wouldn't be who I am today."
