Lauren Waters

Manchester, UK

BSc (Hons) Computer Science

Lauren Waters is a final year Computer Science student. Her final year project is around medical tech research – an application she has designed to help parents with understanding their children's medical conditions.

I'd never been to the north-east before but I liked the idea of there being a beach and it's very different to where I'm from in Manchester, so I thought I'd give it a shot!

I was so excited at the idea of having games labs and VR labs and we have a robot dog that you see running around the campus which isn't something you see very often!

I love attending my classes. The areas we've covered this year include machine learning, cybersecurity, and user experience design, which are areas I'm interested in anyway.

My final year project is around medical tech research. It's an application I've been designing to help parents with understanding their children's medical conditions, keeping track of relevant data and using predictive analysis and machine learning to predict how weight gain should perform on a child.

My advice to prospective students is to make sure if you're going to commit to a course for three years, that it's something you're going to enjoy.

This has definitely been one of the most eye-opening experiences of my life."
