Our Postgraduate Open Days are for anyone who is interested in studying a postgraduate course here at the University of Sunderland, whether you’re just about to finish your undergraduate degree, or you’ve been out of education for a while.

They're a great opportunity to learn more about the courses we offer, meet academic staff, and speak to experts about student finance and accommodation options. Here are some more great reasons why you should come to our next Postgraduate Open Day.

1. Get a confidence boost

Coming to an Open Day is the first step in your postgraduate student journey. If you’ve been out of education for a while, making the choice to come back and retrain or update your knowledge can be daunting. Worries about assignment writing and referencing, 'keeping up’ in classes, and the step up from undergraduate study are common concerns we hear at Postgraduate Open Days. But we’ve got plenty of people for you to meet who will reassure you that you can do it!

Speak to academics who teach on our postgraduate courses – they can tell you about the modules you’ll study and what to expect assignment-wise. They’ll also tell you about the support on offer, such as personal tutors, peer support and our student support services – many of which will have a representative you can speak to during the Open Day. You’ll also see other prospective students in attendance, so you can be reassured that you’re not alone!

Plus, you don’t have to worry if you need to bring your partner or kids along with you to the event – all are welcome! So, come to one of our Postgraduate Open Days and gain confidence in your decision to study here.

2. Discover your fresh start

If you’re stuck in a profession that isn’t working for you anymore, have you considered that postgraduate study could be your fresh start? We offer a selection of conversion courses, which are master's degrees that enable you to change career direction. Come along to the Postgraduate Open Day and find out which course could be right for you, and read more about conversion courses here.

3. Learn about student finance and scholarships

Student finance is a popular topic of discussion at an Open Day. If you’re unsure about funding opportunities for postgraduate students, we'd recommend attending a talk to get all the information you need.

You can also speak to our Student Financial Consultants, who will be at the Postgraduate Open Day to provide confidential and impartial financial advice. Check out our postgraduate fees and funding page before you arrive, which may give you some idea of what you could be entitled to, as well as give you the opportunity to write down any questions you might have for our consultants. Don’t forget to ask about our postgraduate scholarships and bursaries that you could take advantage of to help with any course or study costs.

4. See our accommodation

You may require accommodation while you study, so you’ll want to see what we have on offer at Sunderland. During our Postgraduate Open Days, you'll have the chance to visit some of our accommodation suitable for postgraduate students, including one-bedroom flats which are available for couples.

For more information and to book your place on the tour, head to the registration desk on the day.

5. Current student? See a new side of Sunderland

Are you a current undergraduate student at Sunderland? You’ll know what the University has to offer already, but by coming to the Postgraduate Open Day, you could discover a side of Sunderland you might not have seen before.

If you’ve been considering postgraduate study but aren’t sure what this entails, come along to one of our talks to learn more. You might want to study a course in a different Faculty or School, so head to the subject stands to speak to academics and find out what's required for entry onto your chosen course.

Although you’ll know your way around, it's still worth attending a campus tour, particularly if you’re not as familiar with some of the facilities at one of our campuses. Tours are available for both City Campus and the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter’s and will be running regularly throughout the events.

These are just some of the many great reasons to come to our next Postgraduate Open Day. Keep checking our Open Day pages for further information about our events, including how to book your place. We look forward to seeing you on campus soon!
