STEMM Outreach

Our STEMM outreach activities introduce pupils in Years 7-11 to graduate careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine.

Upcoming Outreach Opportunities

We are now providing opportunities for some additional schools that meet our targeting criteria, enabling a wider range of pupils to benefit from our outreach activities. This includes local state schools with a high proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals.

If you would like to find out more about our new STEMM outreach offer and make a booking, please email pre16activities@sunderland.ac.uk.

We also promote secondary school opportunities via our newsletters and other promotional channels. Sign up to our mailing list to stay up to date.

Our work with South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust

We are collaborating with our NHS colleagues to host an allied health professionals event for Year 8 pupils from schools in South Tyneside and Sunderland. Visiting pupils will participate in interactive activities led by NHS clinicians including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Radiographers, Speech and Language Therapists, Dieticians and others. They will also have the chance to explore our healthcare facilities and gain an insight into higher education and health career pathways.

Our work with Salters’ Institute

This year, we are hosting two Discovery Days for the Salters’ Institute’s Festivals of Chemistry. This is an opportunity to inspire pupils about chemistry, motivate them to pursue the subject to an advanced level, and ultimately encourage pupils to see themselves working in and with science in the future. The programme is aimed at Year 10 and 11 pupils and includes both online elements and a campus event at University of Sunderland.

Our work with Foundation of Light

We are collaborating with Foundation of Light to create the Esports Challenge. This has been made possible through funding from Community Foundation. The programme is targeted at Key Stage 3 pupils and shines a light on British Esports and the new Esports Event Management degree which the University has launched.

Our Healthcare Courses Campus Visit

We are planning to host an on-campus multi-school healthcare event in the summer term. This will be promoted to school contacts via our newsletters and other promotional channels with full details of dates, content, and how to secure places for your pupils. The programme is aimed at Year 10 pupils.
