Destination Uni

Destination Uni provides pupils in Years 7-11 the opportunity to explore higher education.

Some changes to our secondary school activities

Destination Uni introduces university through a range of assemblies, workshops, and interactive sessions. These activities are designed to support informed choices while providing an insight into university and graduate careers.

Partner Schools

We have moved to a more targeted approach to ensure our pre-16 schools’ outreach interventions are impactful and beneficial to pupils from widening participation backgrounds. By working in this way, we can track pupils’ progress and evidence the impact of our interventions.

As a result, we have selected a cohort of partner secondary schools. These have been identified as having the highest number of pupils from backgrounds currently underrepresented in higher education. Existing partnership arrangements with schools have also been considered in our targeting criteria.

Upcoming Outreach Opportunities

We are now providing opportunities for some additional schools that meet our targeting criteria, enabling a wider range of pupils to benefit from our outreach activities. This includes local state schools with a high proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals.

If you would like to find out more about our new outreach offer and make a booking, please email pre16activities@sunderland.ac.uk.

We also promote secondary school opportunities via our newsletters and other promotional channels. Sign up to our mailing list to stay up to date.

Our work with North East Raising Aspirations Partnership

We are also part of the North East Raising Aspirations Partnership (NERAP), a collaboration of the five universities in the region (Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside). NERAP coordinates a range of activities for pupils in secondary education, and specific targeted support for under-represented groups. NERAP Higher Education Ambassadors deliver presentations and attend careers fairs.
