Doctrines of Space - Mark Hursty

11 June – 26 June 2016

Mark Hursty sculpts from the standpoint of a conceptual historian and inventor. His work revives and reinvents pressed glass, a decorative mass production technique, as an artistic medium. In these works ancient and overlooked press-moulding is paired with digital manufacture to create moulds for molten glass. The results are sculptural box assemblages and modular screens that expand and contract like fabric. These forms explore artistic and scientific concepts of the Void, and pressure, in molten, mould-formed glass.

Mark Hursty is in the final stages of his PhD studies at National Glass Centre at the University of Sunderland. He currently works as a Research Fellow at Alfred University, NY, USA.
