The University of Sunderland has secured its global standing once again in the 2025 edition of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject.

The World University Rankings data sees Sunderland’s Social Sciences, which covers programmes from the Faculty of Education, Society and Creative Industries, ranked 801 – 1,000.

Dr Ben Middleton, Academic Dean of the Faculty of Education, Society and Creative Industries at the University of Sunderland, said: "We are delighted to have been ranked amongst the world’s best universities for Social Sciences by the Times Higher World University rankings 2025. 

"Our research has world-leading impact and directly informs our teaching across a wide range of subjects, from Criminology to Social Work, Media and Journalism, and this latest recognition highlights the excellent experience that is reported by our students.”

This year’s rankings for Social Sciences include 1,093 institutions from 100 countries and territories.
