Sunderland once again held another year of Pride festivities with a whole host of events that celebrated the LGBTQ+ community.

The whole city came together for the Pride Parade that started on Park Lane and took those participating, including staff and students from the University of Sunderland, through the city to finish at Sunniside Gardens.

The University also held its own Pre-Pride Party that was open to all staff and students.

Pride is a moment for the city of Sunderland to reflect on the past, celebrate the present and look forward to the future.

Charlotte Feather, Chair of the Staff Pride Network at the University, said: “Pride in Sunderland 2024 was a vibrant testament to our community's strength, resilience, and unity.

"It was fabulous to see so many LGBTQ+ people and allies come together to celebrate diversity and advocate for inclusivity.

"The number of attendees both in the Pride march and at the live event not only highlights the progress we've made here in the North East but also inspires us to continue championing equality in every corner of our community.

"At the University of Sunderland, we strive to create spaces where all people feel a sense of belonging. The Staff Pride Network has hosted a range of events this June in celebration of Pride, but our work continues year round to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights.”
