Sixteen international students from the South Shields Football Club (SSFC) International Academy have graduated during the University of Sunderland’s winter graduations, making them the first of their kind.
The University, in partnership with SSFC, established the International Academy to offer students the chance to study abroad in the UK while gaining professional football experience.
Students can study a variety of courses at the University including Sport and Exercise Science, Business Administration and Sports Journalism.
These students have joined thousands more to cross the stage at this year’s Winter Graduation Ceremonies held at the Stadium of Light.
Adam Shaw, Head of SSFC International Academy, said: “It’s fantastic to see our first International Academy cohort graduating. “It’s been a lot of hard work both in the classroom and on the field and we couldn’t be happier to see them enjoy their special day. “All student athletes have been a pleasure to work with and have represented both the football club and the University impeccably during their time on the program, setting the bar very high for all following in their footsteps. “They will forever be in history as the first class of the South Shields International Academy and we wish them all the best for the future, we certainly will be keeping in touch."
