The University of Sunderland has been named as an Official Event Partner of AJ Bell 2023 World Triathlon Championship Series Sunderland.
Taking place on 29-30 July in Roker, the event, which is being hosted by British Triathlon and Sunderland City Council, is the British leg of the World Triathlon Championship Series. It will see some of the world’s best triathletes competing for vital ranking points ahead of next year’s Olympic Games and momentum heading into this year’s Test Event in Paris.
Over the weekend, as well as those watching at home on the BBC and lining the course, thousands of people will take on various distances and options of swim, bike, run with entries still open to the public.
As an Official Event Partner, the University of Sunderland will be in the Event Village running a variety of competitions and providing people with the chance to learn more about the University, as well as providing each race finisher with a University of Sunderland water bottle. Current students will also be given the opportunity to volunteer at the event across a wide range of areas, including videography, physiotherapy and photography, providing them with the platform to use their skills in a real-world environment.

As well as allowing us to expand our offering in the race village for participants and spectators, the reusable University of Sunderland water bottles that all our finishers will receive is huge in helping us become more sustainable and ensure we’re meeting our targets.
