We Care at Christmas, the University's 2023 Christmas appeal, focuses on coming together as a community to support some of the most vulnerable students at our Sunderland and London campuses who are care-experienced and estranged.
The campaign has now closed, and this year, thanks to staff donations, student sponsorship and money raising events, and the support of generous donors, the University has raised a remarkable £8,300.
These donations are supporting 152 students and 48 of their children this Christmas, ensuring that no student spends the festive season without a card or a gift and no children go without presents this Christmas.
As well as supporting students and their families, students would like to thank the sponsors and donors who are also supporting 24 cats, 22 dogs, one rabbit, one hamster, one guinea pig and one rat this Christmas! (No partridges, we checked!).
Thank you also to University sponsors and donors, including:
Sir David and Lady Louise Bell
Senator Group
Rotary Club of Sunderland
Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland
Colleagues, Alumni and ex-staff members
Special “Thank yous” also go out to Team Sunderland, whose Bier Keller Bingo event, and Game Day Cup sales raised close to £1,000, and the Domestic Team at Estates and Facilities, who raised £380 with their Christmas jumper day, elf cards, guess the name of the bear, raffles.
