Students from the University of Sunderland picked up an array of top prizes at this weekend’s 2019 Royal Television Society Awards for the North East.
The awards have recognised some of the best media talent in the University at a star-studded red-carpet ceremony.
As part of the student section of the awards, young filmmakers from the University picked up top accolades in the following categories:
Factual: NEPK - North East Parkour
Editing: NEPK – North East Parkour
News: Greek unemployment
Production Design: Rebel Rebel - Thomas Johnson
Comedy and Entertainment: Rebel Rebel
One of the big winners of the night was the North East Parkour short film.
Rob Kilburn, Lewis Dodds, Isaac Johnson and Frantisek Sverha were the team behind the film, about the free-running craze.
Rob and Lewis are also currently pulling together a documentary about the infamous Blue Monkey and New Monkey nightclubs in Sunderland.
The annual RTS ceremony, hosted by North East comedian and writer Jason Cook, attracted more than 400 guests and famous faces – including actors Brenda Blethyn, Kenny Doughty and Bill Ward along with TV presenters Pam Royle, Jeff Brown, Ian Payne and Simon McCoy.
Graeme Thompson, Chair of the regional Royal Television Society Awards Committee, said: “As television production in the region continues to thrive, the Royal Television Society awards play an important part in celebrating the best and brightest professional excellence but also encouraging and supporting future talent from across the region.”
