The University of Sunderland is one of the world’s best young universities according to the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings 2023.
Sunderland has appeared in the latest edition of these rankings, listing the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger.
The table is based on the same performance indicators as the flagship THE World University Rankings, to assess research-intensive universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
However, the weightings reflect the profile of missions of young universities, using 13 performance indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons, trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments. The rankings include institutions that were founded between 1973 and the present.
Sir David Bell, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University, said: “In recent years, the University of Sunderland has received several accolades, both nationally and internationally.
“Taken together, such markers of esteem tell a story of a university that is growing in strength and confidence, as well as being increasingly well regarded. For that, I pay tribute to the students and staff who make this such a special community in which to learn and work.”
