A group of media-savvy students from the University of Sunderland got a taste of life at the cutting edge of sports news.

The University's second-year Sports Journalism students paid a visit to the London headquarters of Sky Sports News this week.

As well as interviewing veteran presenter Rob Wotton, getting involved in an editorial planning meeting, and witnessing technical wizardry in the production gallery, the group of 10 braved the full glare of the studio alongside Wotton's fellow presenters, David Garrido and Rachel Wyse.

Two Sunderland graduates now firmly established within the Sky Sports News family - Jonny McCann and Michael Weightman - took the time to show students around the channel's unrivalled facilities and chat to a range of their fellow staff.

This came 24 hours after Sunderland's finest had reported on football's Non-League Finals Day at from the press box at Wembley Stadium and interviewed players and coaches in the post-match mixed zone.
