Staff, students and graduates from the University of Sunderland will be among the 4,000 runners expected to take part in the Sunderland City Runs this weekend (Sunday 12 May).
The University is one of the sponsors of the event, which races through the city and along the sea front, with two of its famous bridges providing the backdrop to all three distances.
Participants in the Sunderland City Runs can choose from the Sunderland City 10k, a half-marathon or the Active Sunderland Big 3k.
The races start and finish at Keel Square, where there will also be an Event Village with activities, refreshments and entertainment. There will be an official warm-up from Everyone Active before the races start on the Red Sky Foundation Stage in Keel Square, and the stage will also be the location for 1st/2nd/3rd place presentations. A number of restaurants and cafes around Keel Square are also offering deals for runners on food and drink after the race.
More than 50 University of Sunderland staff, students and alumni are taking on the Sunderland City Run to raise money for the University's Futures Fund, which supports students and graduates and helps them realise their ambitions.
Your donation could help students and graduates like twin brothers Callum and James Rowe who head to Sweden this weekend to cover this year’s Eurovision Song Contest; or Occupational Therapy students Charlotte Eastick and Alisha Knox who will spend six weeks this summer working in a hosptial in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania putting their studies into practice.
