The University of Sunderland has been named as one of the top universities in Europe, according to the first ever edition of the QS World University Rankings: Europe 2024.
Global higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds has today (Wednesday 20 September) released its first Europe-wide ranking, the only significant regional ranking of European universities. The results see the University ranked 10th place in Europe and second place in the UK for International Student Diversity.
This edition of the ranking features 688 institutions across 42 locations, including 107 in the UK.
Ian Moody, Director of International at the University of Sunderland, said: “Teaching and Learning is pivotal to everything we do. Part of the learning experience involves learning from others. Having a diverse population in classrooms provides students the opportunity to share different perspectives and examples in the classroom which enriches their student experience.
“We are proud to be a truly global University and of our global reach. We have more than 100 different nationalities studying with us in the UK – at our Sunderland and London campuses. We also have 24 partners spread across the world, and a campus in Hong Kong, delivering our programmes.”
QS Senior Vice President Ben Sowter added: “The inaugural edition of the QS Europe Ranking is a landmark step and a long time in the making. It offers a unique opportunity for universities in one of the world’s most competitive higher education landscapes to benchmark themselves against their international peers and for its policymakers to assess individual institutional performance across the broadest range of datasets in any of our rankings.”
Sunderland’s overall ranking is 445th in Europe and 92nd in the UK.
