An academic who has been on the frontline of some of the world’s worst disaster zones is to give a talk at our Univeristy on April 6, 3pm-4pm.
Dr Andrew Lee will present the free lecture: ‘Natural Disaster Preparedness: Tales from the Frontline’ in Reg Vardy Room 317, Sir Tom Cowie Campus, St Peter’s.
Dr Lee is a consultant in communicable disease control at Public Health England. He has previously worked for humanitarian aid agencies in disaster zones around the world including Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, the Philippines and Zimbabwe.
In 2015, Dr Lee worked as an external consultant for the World Health Organisation (WHO) where he was responsible for carrying out evaluations of their in-house presence in both Bangladesh and Cambodia.
Dr Lee, a Senior Lecturer in Public Health at the University of Sheffield whose research interests include disaster management and health protection.
John Mooney, Senior Lecturer in Public Health and Programme Lead for MSc in Public Health at the University of Sunderland, said: “We are extremely delighted to be hosting this event, which will give our students and practitioners from around the region a special insight into the world of international ‘front-line’ public health response teams. As a former colleague of Andrew’s at Sheffield, I know him to be a very engaging and informative speaker.”
The lecture is a regional Faculty of Public Health (FPH) training event, open to staff and students of the University of Sunderland.
