Leading north-east business figure and University of Sunderland Governor, Louise Hunter, is set to take up a new role as Deputy Chair of the University’s Board of Governors.
Following previous roles, training as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG in Edinburgh and then leading corporate responsibility programmes at Business in the Community, Louise initially joined Northumbrian Water Group in 2006 to lead its sustainability strategy as Head of Corporate Responsibility and was appointed to her current role of Director of Corporate Affairs in July 2012.
Louise said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be appointed as the Deputy Chair at the University of Sunderland, and I’m grateful for the support provided by Northumbrian Water which encourages its employees to play a wider role in its communities.
“As an active member of the north-east business community, I hope to use my skills and experience to support University of Sunderland Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Sir David Bell and his talented leadership team, and Farooq Hakim and the fantastic Board of Governors, and to make a positive impact for the students.
“This is a very exciting time for the University and the city of Sunderland, with the announced £250 million investment over the next ten years, and I’m eager to be part of its bright future.”
Farooq Hakim, Chair of the Board of Governors, added: “Having a diverse board is essential and having someone of Louise’s knowledge as Deputy will further strengthen our governance and support the exciting transformations we have planned.”
