Author, journalist, former MP and Labour minister Chris Mullin will discuss his new book 'Hinterland, a memoir' - launching the University of Sunderland's 2016/17 public lecture series next month.
Tickets for his talk, which takes place at the Murray Library Lecture Theatre on Tuesday, November 8, at 6.30pm are free, but must be booked in advance.
'Hinterland, a memoir' is Chris Mullin's account of his life in journalism and politics. Before election to Parliament, Chris was a journalist reporting from, among other places, the wars in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. He tracked down the survivors of the CIA operation in Tibet.
He is the author of three widely acclaimed volumes of diaries and the novel 'A very British Coup', the television version of which won several BAFTAs and an Emmy. His investigation into the Birmingham pub bombings has been described as 'one of the greatest feats ever achieved by an investigative reporter'.
Since his retirement from parliament in 2010 he has served as the regional chairman of the Heritage Lottery. He also chairs a development charity International Alert.
