Jessica Mouse, who is studying the University’s BA (Hons) Graphic Design (Top-Up) at the Hong Kong College of Technology, placed third in the Annual Student Graphic Design Competition, run by Display and Exhibition Company Display Wizard.
The brief for the competition was to design two display stands looking at the career benefits of the student’s current course.
The judges, who were made up of the professional design team at Display Wizard commented, "Jessica's design used the symbolism of the lightbulb brilliantly and also took into account the colour scheme of the university in the design.
"In her essay, Jessica explained that she was inspired to use the lightbulb as it means exploration and creating new ideas whilst being bright, striking and enthusiastic."
Jessica, 26, studies via the University of Sunderland’s TNE (transnational education) scheme at the Hong Kong College of Technology.
She says: “The programme has offered me many opportunities to learn and explore the design world, and inspired me to participate in the design competition. It was a good beginning, and a good learning experience.”
Jessica hopes to become a commercial designer, working in branding, publishing and event design.
Gurpreet Singh, Head of Design at Sunderland said ‘Jessica has demonstrated her passion for design through this competition entry which combines the colours of the University logo, with her visual representation of creative ideas. She’s done a terrific job and we’re really proud of her.”
The Graphic Design competition is run every year by Display Wizard, who say, “We love running the student design competition, as we want to encourage the skills and creativity of students.
“This competition gives them motivation to create something for their college or university, and provides valuable experience, with a chance to see their designs printed up if they are one of the winners.
“It’s always great to see the amazing designs of students when we run this competition, and this year Jessica’s was one of the designs that really stood out.”
Jessica’s banner design will now be used to promote the graphic design course on City Campus.
