The Guardian University Guide 2023 places the University at number 50 in the country - our highest position in 10 years - with a rise of 42 places compared to last year.
The move comes on the back of a successful few years for the University which saw it nominated as the University of the Year in the Times Higher Education Awards in 2021, as well as being named University of the Year for social inclusion in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021.
Sir David Bell, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Sunderland, said: “University ‘league tables’ are only one measure of the work done at the University of Sunderland.
“However, such a dramatic rise in the Guardian University Guide is a notable moment for us. So, as always, I pay tribute to students and staff for all their hard work which we see, and celebrate, day in and day out.”
The University was ranked 92 last year in the table, up from 100th position the year before.
