You’ve seen them lock horns on Good Morning Britain – but today (Monday, 14 November), The Mirror’s Kevin Maguire was joined by his sparring partner Andrew “Tory Boy” Pierce of the Daily Mail at the University of Sunderland.

The Labour/Tory pair debated the big political issues of the day and took questions from students and members of the public at the University’s Hope Street Xchange, City Campus.

Carole Watson, Principal Lecturer and Team Leader in Journalism and Communications at the University of Sunderland, said: “Kevin has been a dedicated visiting professor at the University for the past few years, giving his time and expertise to our journalism students and occasionally roping in his TV sidekick Andrew Pierce to ensure a balance of views.

“There’s never been a more fascinating time to consider a career as a political journalist and the event itself couldn’t have been more timely given the cost of living crisis, a revolving door of Prime Ministers, and a former Health Secretary in the Australian jungle on I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!

“We’re so grateful to Kevin and Andrew for such a lively question and answer session."
