The Head of the University’s School of Medicine will join a panel of experts from the city and beyond, including TV presenter George Clarke and the Leader of Sunderland City Council Graeme Miller, to discuss how new developments in Sunderland can improve the education and health prospects of our students and the city’s residents.
Professor Scott Wilkes, Head of the School of Medicine and Professor of General Practice and Primary Care, will join the Sunderland Future Living Expo 2023 this Thursday for Delivering Education and Skills, a round table examining the role the new developments at Riverside Sunderland will play in creating education, training and employment opportunities for local people that will deliver innovative new housing and healthy communities.
Delivering Education and Skills takes place online on Thursday 22 October at 11am. You can book your free ticket HERE.
Professor Wilkes said: "I'm delighted be involved in this initiative. The whole premise of our successful bid to establish the new School of Medicine is firstly to attract students from less advantaged sectors of society who have the talent but may not have had the opportunity to consider medicine as a career and secondly, to create and retain doctors in areas where we struggle to recruit doctors.
“A city culture and the accommodation to attract these professionals is a crucial plank in the forward vision.”
The Sunderland Future Living Expo 2023 is an innovative public event which celebrates the new homes being developed for 21st Century living at Riverside Sunderland.
The five-day programme will explore key themes leading up to 2023; design and architecture, new ways of building homes, education and skills, and business opportunities for the city and region.
Everyone is welcome to the launch of this exciting and transformative event for the city.
