The BBC are working on a day of special coverage in Sunderland today (19 October) exploring issues around young people and the impact of the cost of living crisis.

BBC Radio 5 Live’s ‘Wake up to Money’ aired at 5am from the University of Sunderland's Industry Centre (Institute for Automotive & Manufacturing Advanced Practice). A number of businesses in the city were invited to talk about the challenges they are facing such as inflation, supply chain pressures, energy costs and how the wider cost of living crisis is affecting their staff. This was followed by a series of live segments for BBC Radio 4's Today programme and 5 Live Breakfast.

National Glass Centre, St Peter’s Campus, hosted the BBC Breakfast Show and other news programmes throughout the day.

At the Fire Station, Sunderland media students got the chance to sit in the audience for 5 Live with presenter Nicky Campbell.

Newsnight will also broadcast from the Fire Station later this evening.
