BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science Practice Degree Apprenticeship

Robert Usher is a Senior Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology at the University Hospital of North Durham/ NHS County Durham and Darlington. Having his employees study the BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science Practice Degree Apprenticeship has benefitted his whole workforce.

Currently, I am a Senior Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology at University Hospital of North Durham/ NHS County Durham and Darlington.

The BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science Practice Degree Apprenticeship programme has really helped us as a department and it really fits in with our training ethos. We really want to develop our staff, and the apprenticeship allows for that. Once an apprentice has finished their course they are fully qualified members of staff. This is really beneficial to the service as what they have learnt during the apprenticeship they can then roll out their training and learning experiences to future Biomedical Scientists.”

From my experience with the University and the apprentices, I would definitely recommend the programme to a future employer. The apprenticeship programme has helped develop the team as a whole. Our apprentices have learned skills at University which they can then bring back to the workforce and it helps develop other staff.”
