What are my tuition fees?

Tuition fees vary depending on whether you are a UK, EU or international student. Here's what you need to know about the cost of your course in 2025/26.

Undergraduate home/EU students

Students from countries within the EU pay the same tuition fees as students from the UK. Check if you qualify as a UK, EU, or International student.

  • Full-time: £9,535

Most tuition fees for full-time students are £9,535 per year for three or four-year undergraduate degrees and top-up degrees.

  • Part-time: £7,145

Most tuition fees for part-time students are £7,145 per 90 credits, but there are exceptions. Different fees apply if you're studying at a study centre or partner college.

  • Accelerated: £11,440

Our accelerated courses include BSc (Hons) Professional Policing and BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy.

  • Integrated Foundation Year (IFY): £5,760 or £9,535

Tuition fees vary depending on the IFY course you're studying. Check the relevant course page for the exact fee.

Postgraduate home/EU students

Students from countries within the EU pay the same tuition fees as students from the UK. Check if you qualify as a UK, EU, or International student.

  • Full-time: £8,500, £9,000, £9,250, £9,500, £15,000, or £18,000

Tuition fees for full-time students vary depending on the course you're studying. Check the relevant course page for the exact fee.

  • Part-time: £500 per 10 credits

Most taught postgraduate courses (MA, MSc) are £500 per 10-credit module, but there are exceptions. Most postgraduate courses are 180 credits in total, and will normally take two years to complete on a part-time basis.

Research students

UK/Ireland/EU settled/pre-settled postgraduate research fees

  • PhD and MPhil (full-time): £4,700-£6,200
  • PhD and MPhil (part-time): £3,681
  • PhD and MPhil (distance learning): £3,681
  • PhD by Existing Published or Creative Works: £8,000
  • Higher Doctorate: £4,100

International postgraduate research fees

  • PhD and MPhil (full-time): £14,500-£17,000
  • PhD and MPhil (part-time): £8,500
  • PhD and MPhil (distance learning): £8,000
  • PhD by Existing Published or Creative Works: £8,000
  • Higher Doctorate: £6,000

Write-up fees

Some research degrees also have an additional write-up fee. For more information about postgraduate research fees, please contact graduate.school@sunderland.ac.uk.

International students

Please note that if you have a Student visa, you cannot study any course on a part-time basis.

Undergraduate fees

  • £16,500

Tuition fees are £16,500. They are higher because the UK Government subsidises the cost of university tuition for UK students.

Postgraduate fees

  • £17,000-£21,000

Accelerated fees

  • £16,500 and £24,000

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses (on campus and distance learning)

  • Foundation Certificate of Achievement in English for Academic Purposes Course B: £3,250
  • Foundation Certificate of Achievement in English for Academic Purposes Course C: £2,200
  • Foundation Certificate of Achievement in English for Academic Purposes Course D: £1,100

Short courses

Prices for short courses vary. Funding opportunities may be available to eligible students and businesses. Contact CaPE for more information: cape@sunderland.ac.uk.

Placement year

  • £1,200

The current fee for completing a placement year is £1,200. Student Finance England may be able to add this to your student loan, or alternatively, you can pay this directly.
