If you already have a degree and want to study a course which is at an equivalent or lower level, you’d be classed as having Equivalent or Lower Qualifications (ELQ status).
An example of this is if you already have an MA and you’d like to return and study a BSc, you’d have ELQ status.
ELQ status is permitted but has visa and financial implications – for example, you may not receive Student Finance funding for the subsequent course, and if you’re an international student you may not be eligible to apply for a student visa.
If you’re self funding and are eligible to study in the UK, you’re welcome to study as many courses as you wish. For more information on ELQ status, please contact us on 0191 515 3000 or student.helpline@sunderland.ac.uk.
