Lecturer in Further Education and Skills

I am a Lecturer on PGCE Further Education and Skills (FES) and Programme Leader for the Learning and Skills Teacher (LST) Apprenticeship.

I graduated in 2017 with a BA (Hons) in Performing Arts and completed my PGCE a year later at the University of Sunderland. I found a particular interest in the English pathway and decided to complete my placement at a college teaching English Language GCSE to re-sit learners.

Throughout the year, I became more interested in Government policies for both FE and HE therefore I decided to pursue a master's in Education which I completed in 2019.

I have a strong background in creativity, social justice and equity therefore I am keen to enhance my own teaching and development while providing the same opportunities for my learners.

Research

I have explored research and literature associated with engagement, motivation and the affective domain for college re-sit students as evidenced in my PGCE PCET project: "Written or Oral Feedback: Does the Nature and Format of Feedback Have an Impact on Student Learning?"

My master's research project focused on higher education performing art students and the link between anxiety and strategies to overcome stage fright: "Investigating Performance Anxiety and Coping Strategies in Undergraduate Performing Arts Students".

My current research interests include looking into Decolonising the Curriculum in both HE and FE, and the use of AI in education, specifically looking into how both teachers and learners engage with this to develop critical thinking

In addition to my professional interests, I have a passion for performing, travel and cooking a variety of different cuisines.

I am currently teaching myself video editing and graphic design, with a further interest in music production.
