Senior Lecturer International Initial Teacher Training
I am a member of the International Initial Teacher Training (IITT) team in the School of Education. I work across a number of different PGCE cohorts in differing capacities from PGCE Programme Leader, Module Leader and Personal Academic Tutor. I have worked extensively on the PGCE iQTS Programme in its first two years as Programme Lead for Secondary trainees and now move back on the PGCE Programme I initially started on.
My background is in secondary education having myself undertaken my teacher training at the University of Sunderland. I began my teaching career in two very different schools in the UK before embarking upon a career in education abroad for 11 years in Dubai and Beijing. In the final seven years of my career overseas, I worked as a Secondary Headteacher of a British International School and then as a Principal of a school in China offering British, American and IB curricula. Latterly, I trained with PENTA International to enable me to undertake school inspections for schools seeking both BSO and BSME accreditations. These experiences serve me well in being able to support the trainees we encounter in our courses.
