Lecturer

With over 20 years of experience as an art, design, and design technology teacher in secondary schools, and as a specialist in SEND in both primary and secondary, I have a wealth of experience across all levels.

I am Programme Leader for the new BA (Hons) Primary Education with SEND and a Lecturer working in the Initial Teacher Training Team to trainee teachers in all phases of art, design, design technology, and SEND education.

I teach BA (Hons) Education Studies and most of the ITT courses.

My research interests are in creative education, as an enabling tool for an enhanced pedagogy within a curriculum designed to be ambitious, giving all learners the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life.

Research

My Master’s thesis was how a Mindfulness programme designed for schools benefits cognitive functioning skills leading to better outcomes for learners with SEND. This has led my research interest to pursue how creative art education, as an enabling tool for an enhanced pedagogy within a curriculum designed to be ambitious, can give all learners the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life.
