Senior Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy Practice
I graduated from MPharm at the University of Sunderland in 2012 and completed my foundation training year in a community pharmacy in Sunderland.
In 2012, I registered as a pharmacist and worked as a community pharmacist for 10 years. Towards the end of my time as a community pharmacist, I applied to support the NHS with the pandemic response and worked as a clinical lead of a Covid-19 vaccination centre from January 2021.
I joined the University of Sunderland in 2022 and have since, balanced my time working as an academic at the University and as a pharmacist in practice. In addition, I completed a postgraduate clinical diploma with independent prescribing status (awaiting annotation), which I now use working as a practice pharmacist one day per week in a GP surgery in Sunderland.
In 2022 I took over running the stage 2 module The Legal, Ethical, and Professional Basis of Practice. The teaching in this module is fundamental to support graduates towards their registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
In 2023, I took over as stage 2 year leader. This role allows me to spend more time with students studying in stage 2, where I work with them to offer support in a range of areas.
Teaching and supervision
I teach across MPharm, OSPAP, and Enhanced Prescribing for Health Professionals.
I am module lead for PHA 221 – The Legal, Professional, and Ethical Basis of Practice and support work-based learning across MPharm.
In addition, I am stage 2 year leader.
